Life goes on

When leaving the hospital after one week, we just had two goals.

Leaving the hospital after a diagnosis felt like stepping into a new world—one where every meal, every activity, and even every mood had to be carefully managed. As we walked out the doors, the goals were clear and daunting: avoid the extremes. Low blood sugar could send us spiraling into a crisis, while high blood sugar could lead us right back to the hospital we were so eager to leave behind.

Armed with insulin pens, a glucose meter, and a whirlwind of new information, we knew that keeping blood sugar levels in check would be a delicate balancing act. It was overwhelming, but we were determined.

We made a decision: we wouldn’t let this diagnosis change our lives. We were determined to carry on as normally as possible. There would be no restrictions on eating, and sports would continue just as before. Managing blood sugar levels would be a challenge, but we wouldn’t let it take away the things we loved. We weren't just leaving the hospital—we were stepping into a new chapter with the singular focus of staying out of it, without letting diabetes dictate our lives.
