On August 4, 2011, I found myself sitting in a hospital room wondering what just happened?

The sterile walls around me felt strangely surreal as the doctor delivered the news: Type 1 diabetes. In that moment, time seemed to stand still. The diagnosis came out of nowhere, although I had suspected it. And suddenly, everything changed.
I watched our little boy, who had just turned 6, sleeping after fighting 5 nurses trying to give him his first dose of insulin. How calm he looked.
That night, as I sat in the quiet of the hospital, the first idea for this blog began to take shape—a way to document this unexpected journey. Since I didn't know what else to call it, "It Is What It Is" seemed fitting just then. During that week one night, as I strolled the hospital corridors, trying to make sense of it all, I soon realized: this is only Type 1 diabetes—we can handle it.
Thirteen years later, I finally decided to put those thoughts into action, and I'm happy to share that we're doing great.
